Overview

Australia’s agtech sector comprises farmers, as well as start-ups, scaleups and enterprises, a rich pool of accelerators and incubators, industry groups, and world-leading universities and research institutions). This course seeks to develop basic competencies and attributes commensurate with the creative, innovative and entrepreneurship skills sought in agricultural technology graduates by challenging students to identify and pitch a new agricultural technology product or service.

This course introduces students to the concept of entrepreneurship and the commercialization of new agricultural technology and related career options. Students completing this course will understand entrepreneurial roles and possibilities, begin developing required skills required of successful entrepreneurs and will develop a sense of their own aptitude for entrepreneurial endeavours. Students work in teams to develop and present a proposal for a new agricultural technology product or service. This occurs through various hands-on activities including identifying possible opportunities, potential customers, creating sales forecasts, developing a marketing strategy, and developing a pitch for an investor. Being an entrepreneur often requires getting out of one's comfort zone. This course offers students this experience through a set of structured experiences, while equipping them with professional skills that are highly valued in the agricultural technology industry.

Students will be required to work in teams and will need to synchronously attend mandatory project team and industry sessions, either online or in-person.
