Three Minute Thesis (3MT®)

3MT® is an academic research communication competition developed by the University of Queensland (UQ), Australia.

Following on from the success of our inaugural 2022 competition, we are excited to announce that ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø is participating in the again in 2024. This is the chance for doctoral students (who have completed their confirmation of candidature) to enter a competition where they could go on to represent ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø, with national and international recognition, prize money, and new audiences for their research. 

The Three Minute Thesis competition celebrates the exciting research conducted by doctoral students. Developed by The University of Queensland, 3MT® cultivates students’ academic, presentation, and research communication skills. 
 
The competition supports their capacity to effectively explain their research in three minutes, in a language appropriate to a non-specialist audience.  All participants in the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø 3MT® Competition will benefit, gaining skills in communicating and disseminating your research.  
 
All applicants are required to have the approval of their Primary Supervisor to apply, and must participate in a mandatory training session (one hour duration). This will be followed by a personalised review of entries. Entries will be assessed by a panel of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø judges.

ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø will award the following prizes:

1st Prize: $1000* and representing ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø in the 2023 Virtual Asia-Pacific 3MT® Competition

2nd Prize: $500* 
 
People's Choice: $250*

*To be spent on research related activities. 

EOI's for the 2024 competition have now closed.  Students who have expressed interest in the 3MT®  have until 5:00pm 11 September to submit their entries.

Judging:

First and second place are judged by our panel. The winner of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø’ s Virtual 3MT® will go on to represent ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø at the . 

The third award is the People’s Choice award and gives the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø community the opportunity to cast your vote for your favourite presentation.
